Mo Mohair

I am about 1/4 of the way done on the front of the mohair monster. It's moving much faster now, and I still do enjoy knitting it. The mohair is really drying my hands though.

The thing that kills it for me is having to sit with a chart to knit. I can't stare off into space then check my knitting and decide it looks okay, or needs x number of rows more (or less). I have to sit and watch, I know the pattern, but I forget to count sometimes and I know it's better for me to keep track with my chart. Oh, well.

Did I tell you that my mom wants one of these, too?

No photos, I'm too tired. Besides, last post I gave you an awesome link...so go watch that again if you need to have a visual.

P.S. I bought my plane tickets for Sock Summit! Are you going?

Mittens for Mo

Mo Rocca that is. Well, this all started a few weeks ago, Mo Rocca mentioned his dislike of handknit sweaters..."They're itchy." Well, some of the knitters from Ravelry took note and the next week (I think), Mo issued a retraction. Norah Gaughan planned and coordinated a sweater that was knit and assembled by 4 fabulous knitters around the country. Read more about the sweater for Mo here on the WBEZ blog.

Franklin Habit was there and gave Mo a copy of his book It Itches.

Mo's mittens, Lamb's Pride Bulky #10 needles. Very simple, very quick. Just the thing when you make up your mind and buy yarn on Thursday, and need to have them finished by the next Thursday, and you're really busy with kids on spring break.

P.S. Mo is a knitter now. He knit himself a hat.

Things are progressing.

Update.

Mohair, sleeve #1 is finished, sleeve #2 is 3/4 of the way done.

I also got the chance to measure it on Aunt G., I've got to lengthen the back by another inch or two, and also lengthen the sleeve another inch or so. Sadly, I don't know that she'll appreciate this sweater. Oh, well. Now my mom is showing signs of interest in the sweater - no, not as in "Wow, you did a great job!" No, I meant as in "I'd like one of those, too."

I put in a bit more time on the Fairly Easy Fair Isle, and now it's time to get started on the sleeves.

Also, C#1's first sock is done! They fit, a bit loosely, but with the big feet in my family that won't be the case by fall.

On the Needles Now...

1. Mohair. Aunt G.'s blue mohair sweater.

Still on sleeve #1. Don't ask.

I will say this though, mohair is really lovely, light and very warm. We used to have a mohair throw when I was a kid, and being a kid I didn't quite get how great it was. As I'm knitting this sweater, I keep thinking that a mohair afghan would be just lovely, and perfect for snuggling under when it's cold.

2. Fairly Easy Fair isle

Made some progress, but see the name of this sweater? I should be done now. What's my problem?

3. Socks for C#1

Nearly done with sock #1, simple toe up 2x2 rib. They look too big, but that's okay, I know his feet will catch up.

4. Socks for D.

Sock #1 done. He's an ingrate, he can wait.

5. I'm sure there's more, but by the look of things, don't you think I should just go get something done already?

Help, I have inertia and I can't get up!

Knitting has found me the best friends.

Look.

Aren't they absolutely gorgeous?

I am so lucky. These were sent to me by my friend, B. We met at knitting a couple of years ago, and we have had so much fun knitting together. She is a lovely person, and even though she denies it, she is quite glamorous. She reapplies her lipstick frequently, and without a mirror! She is also wickedly funny, which is probably why my knitting nights aren't so productive. They sure are fun, though.

B. , I am so happy to be able to call you my friend. Thank you.

Bougainvillea

I have fond memories of being in Thailand on an island that was covered with Bougainvillea, staying at a place with no electricity and very peaceful - so unlike the way my life is now.

When I saw Ann Hanson's sock pattern I just had to have it in that exact yarn. So I did it. I signed up for the Four Season's sock club from Dye Dreams. I got my first package and was totally thrilled - Bougainvillea! and a cute project bag - you never can have too many of those. I'm so excited!

It is so tempting to cast on, but the mohair monster has got to be finished this year. At least I've got about 1/3 of a sleeve done and it's simple, just a lot of counting for increases.
